Destination: Spring Green, WI - September, 2005 -
The Star Tribune
"The best way to start your Spring Green day is at the local
combination club house, hangout, group studio and think tank: the
General Store. One side of the General Store is stocked with tie-dyed
dresses and straw hats worthy of Woodstock 3, a spice wall (dill weed to
apple pie spice blends), scented candles and alternative magazines (this
may be the only country store that proudly carries the Utne Reader). On
the store's other side is the cafe, where you'll find more multipierced
artists, acupuncturists, organic farmers, neo-hippies and architects
than you'll see on an average East Village block.""The General
Store's round-the-world menu hits all the culinary pit stops, from a
soothing pistou soup to risottos, tagines and jerk tofu. When I stopped
by recently with two friends from Paris (as in France), the whole room
collectively held its breath when the Frenchmen ordered quiche. "As good
as my mama's," one of them pronounced (the other was busy eating)." |
